Mr. Woods was appointed Consultant Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon at St Vincent’s University Hospital in 2024. He is a graduate of Oxford University and the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, holding degrees in Medicine (First Class Honours), a Master of Surgery, and a Master’s in Medical Education. During his training, he was awarded the JJ Fitzsimons Gold Medal in Surgery.
He completed his specialist training in Plastic Surgery in Ireland and was awarded Fellowships of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS Plast) and the European Board of Hand Surgery (FEBHS).
Following completion of higher surgical training, Mr. Woods undertook advanced international fellowships including Reconstructive Microsurgery at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, New York; Skin Cancer and Head & Neck Surgery at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust; and an Aesthetic Surgery Fellowship at the Cadogan Clinic, London (BAAPS/BAPRAS).
Mr. Woods has an extensive academic and research portfolio, with over 25 peer-reviewed publications, multiple textbook chapters—including contributions to Grabb and Smith’s Plastic Surgery—and frequent national and international presentations. His clinical and research interests include microsurgical reconstruction, lymphatic surgery, head and neck oncology, and surgical education.
He has received multiple research and innovation awards, including HSE SPARK Innovation and RCSI grants, and has led service development initiatives in antimicrobial stewardship, virtual hand trauma services, and surgical audit. He is an active member of the Reconstructive Surgery Trials Network and has held governance roles at St Vincent’s University Hospital.
Mr. Woods has specialist interests in aesthetic surgery, skin cancer, lymphatic reconstruction, and complex oncologic reconstruction, and is committed to delivering patient-centred, evidence-based care across both public and private practice. He is a member of the Irish Association of Plastic Surgeons and the British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons, and a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland.
