Frequently asked questions

We've compiled a list of the most common questions patients ask about our "see and treat" service, from initial consultation to post-procedure care and insurance. Our goal is to provide clarity and peace of mind at Skin Surgery Group, your new consultant-led clinic in Dublin.

Will my lesion be removed on the day of my first appointment?

Yes, our "see and treat" approach aims to facilitate removal during your consultation if it's suitable and you consent. This saves you time and an extra trip to our clinic.

How much is the consultation fee at Skin Surgery Group?

Our consultation fee is €300. This covers your comprehensive assessment by a specialist consultant at our clinic.

Can I book a procedure without an initial consultation?

No, a consultation with one of our consultants is a mandatory first step. This allows us to thoroughly examine your lesion, discuss your options, and confirm suitability for a procedure.

Is the procedure covered by health insurance, such as Vhi?

Yes, if you have Vhi insurance, procedures are typically fully covered. For patients with other insurance providers, we will give you a specific code after your consultation so you can check directly with your insurer regarding coverage and any potential excess.

Will the removed lesion be sent to a lab for analysis?

Absolutely. All removed lesions are sent to a specialised histopathology lab for thorough analysis to ensure an accurate diagnosis and appropriate follow-up, if needed.

Will I feel any pain during the procedure?

We use local anesthetic to numb the area, ensuring you are comfortable and feel no pain during the procedure itself. You might experience a brief sting as the anesthetic is administered.

How long will it take to get my results back from the lab?

Typically, lab results are available within 4-6 weeks.

Will the procedure leave a scar?

Any incision on the skin will result in a scar. Our highly skilled consultants use meticulous techniques to minimise scarring, and we can offer advice on post-operative care to achieve the best possible cosmetic outcome.

How will I receive my results?

If your results are normal and no further treatment is needed, both you and your GP will receive a letter along with a copy of the results. If further treatment is required, you will be sent an appointment letter inviting you to return to discuss the results with your consultant. We ensure clear communication about your diagnosis and any necessary next steps.

What should I know about wound care after my procedure?

We provide detailed instructions on how to care for your wound to promote optimal healing and minimise complications. Our team is available to address any concerns you may have post-procedure.

What if I'm concerned about the results of my procedure or healing?

If you have any concerns about your healing or the results, please do not hesitate to contact us at 01-2554402 or info@skinsurgerygroup.ie.
